FAQ

What is the difference between waxing and sugaring?

They are both forms of epilation which remove the hair from the root and produce the same results and last equally the same, about 4 weeks on average till you will need another wax! People tend to prefer one over the other pain wise, so we recommend trying both and then deciding for yourself as everyone tends to feel differently.

Sugaring is a natural product that is only 3 ingredients- sugar, lemon and water! It is kept slightly above room temperature and applied with a gloved hand. Your esthetician will apply the sugar in the opposite direction and pull with the grain of the hair. This can help prevent ingrown hairs and breakage, but honestly exfoliation and after-care will be the most important step in preventing and treating in-growns.

Hard wax is heated and applied using a disposable stick. We use hard wax that has a low melting point, but is warmer than sugar. It goes on the skin, hardens and peels off. It is gentle on the skin and acts almost like saran wrap as it hardens to the hair, not the skin. It is usually applied with the hair growth and pulled against, but can be used both ways. We recommend this for thicker, coarse hairs and is great for first time brazilians! We use a high quality hard wax that is gentle and good for all skin types.

Does it hurt?

Short answer is yes, because at the end of the day we are removing hair from the root. But when done correctly it is usually not as painful as you think it will be and gets less painful over time when you are waxing consistently (every 3-4 weeks). The thickness of your hair, pain tolerance, caffeine consumption and where you are at in your cycle will all influence how uncomfortable it will be for you.

If you are worried about pain you can take ibuprofen 30 minutes to an hour before your appointment.

How long does my hair have to be?

For best results your hair needs to be at least ¼ to ½ inch long, which is about the size of a long grain of rice. Rule of thumb is if you can’t pinch and grab the hair with your fingertips, the wax won't grab it either.

Generally, this is at least 2 weeks after shaving, or 3-4 weeks after a wax.

What do I need to know before my first wax?

  1. Don’t freak out. Most people say it wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be! We have been doing this for a long time, use quality ingredients and know how to get it done in the quickest, most painless way possible.

  2. Make sure your hair is long enough. See above.

  3. Exfoliate your skin the day before your wax using a sugar scrub or dry brush.

How do I prevent Ingrown hairs?

The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to exfoliate in between your waxes. If you are not prone to ingrowns or prefer more natural products we recommend using a dry brush, exfoliating glove or sugar scrub 3-4 times per week. If you notice that you do break out quite easily or that what you are using now is not working, we carry an ingrown hair serum that is a game changer at preventing and treating ingrowns by chemically exfoliating the skin! If you have further questions about this, feel free to ask your esthetician about this during your appointment.

Can I get waxed during my period or while pregnant?

Totally! If you are on your period we just ask that you use a tampon or menstrual cup during your appointment and understand that some people are a little more sensitive this time of the month.

If pregnant, you may be more sensitive but there is no reason you cannot wax all the way up until your due date. If you are nervous feel free to ask your doctor.

How long will my wax last?

You shouldn’t see the hairs we removed growing back in for about 1-2 weeks. And you we be ready to wax again at around the 3-4 week mark.

Do guys get waxed too?

Absolutely! We love having dude clients. Just be aware that we do not offer male Brazilians.

Can I get waxed if I have a sunburn?

No, you definitely want to wait until your sunburn has heeled before you come in for a wax. If you do have an active sunburn and get waxed, you risk further burn and or lifting your skin, which no one wants!

Can I bring someone in the room with me for moral support?

You can totally bring someone with you to your appointment, but we ask that they stay in the waiting room or in the car. Having someone else in the service room can be a distraction to both the esthetician and client.

Pre and post care?

Before your service please make sure your hair is long enough, you have exfoliated the day before, and that you are not wearing any deodorant, oil or lotion on your skin.

After your service leave your skin alone for 12-24 hours. During this time do not do anything involving heat or friction (ie. Do not do a heavy workout, have sex or get in a hot tub). You don’t want sweat or bacteria getting into your pores right after. Start exfoliating regularly 48 hours after your service.

Do you take walk-ins or should I make an appointment?

We are by appointment only!
